Separating in Ontario? You May Not Have to Sell the House

“We’ll probably have to sell the house” is a hard thing to hear when you’re picturing the kids’ rooms, their school and their routines. This short video is about what to look at before you decide.

Look at the numbers first

Before you assume selling is the only option, it helps to see four things clearly:

  • What the home is worth
  • What’s still owing on it
  • What a buyout of your ex would take
  • Whether you could manage the new payment on your own

An honest answer, either way

Keeping the house won’t work for everyone. But you deserve to know whether it could work for you, before a decision gets made for you. If you’re separating in Barrie, Simcoe County or anywhere in Ontario, I’m happy to walk through your numbers with you in plain words, with no pressure and no judgment. Sometimes the answer is that selling makes the most sense, and that’s okay too. At least you’ll know.
