Most of us were never taught this
The truth is, most of us were never taught this stuff. We learned math in school, but not credit scores, interest, or debt, or how the equity in a home actually works. Debt shame is everywhere, and almost nobody earned it.

Shame grows in silence. Understanding your options is what changes things. That’s why I think we need to talk about money a whole lot more, out loud, without anyone feeling judged.
Talking about it is the first step, and it’s usually way less scary than the silence. Whether it’s credit card balances, a credit score that’s taken a few bumps, or a mortgage renewal you’re nervous about, a plain-words conversation is a good place to start. You don’t need to have it all figured out before we talk; that’s what the conversation is for.
